일주 · Day pillar
Yang Water over the Rat
壬子 · 임자일주
One of the six Open Sea days
Your day pillar is the day you were born, written as two characters: Water on top for you, and the Rat underneath for what you’re sitting on. Of the four pillars in a Saju chart, this is the one that stands for you and the person next to you, which is why a reader looks at it first. There are sixty in all, and this is one of them.
The deep winter ocean
You’re Yang Water over the Rat — water on water, the sea at its fullest. You’re powerful, strategic and hard to read, with emotional depths that go further down than most people can see.
People sense there’s more going on with you. They’re right.
The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning
The day you were born gives you Yang Water over the Rat, written 壬子 and called 임자일주 in Korean. The top half is the Day Master, the character that stands for you, and it reads as the open sea: deep, always moving, and hard to hold in one place.
Both halves of this pillar are the same element, which is called a doubled pillar . It runs at full volume: strong and self-sufficient, and inclined to treat a partner as a rival rather than a teammate.
Peak strength and a competitive undercurrent
In daily life you’re capable, charismatic and private, with a strategic mind and money or energy that can flow out as powerfully as it flows in.
The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning
You’re sitting on the Rob Wealth star , a competitive twin of yourself, at the Peak stage , which is full strength. It’s also a doubled pillar : water on water, with nothing to soften it. You have huge inner power, fierce independence and a strong competitive streak.
You sit on your own element
The animal under your Day Master carries more of what you already are. Traditionally the seat is read for a partner and for home life, and this version of it says you’re self-sufficient there: you can run your own life without anyone’s help, and you know it.
The cost is that partnership can turn into a contest. Two people who both back themselves need to divide things by who wants them rather than who’s better at them, or the relationship quietly becomes a competition nobody named.
This pillar sits at the peak of the cycle, the strongest position there is. It carries authority and stamina, and the thing to watch is the point where confidence stops listening.
The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning
The seat is the Drive star , read from the main hidden stem of the Rat, and the life stage is 제왕.
Water sitting on Water
Water sitting on Water is the undiluted version: nothing softens it and nothing gets in its way. You get the full strength of the element, and the full cost of it too.
The Rat is a Water animal, which is where that comes from. It’s the same for every Yang Water over the Rat, whatever else is in the chart.
Is this you?
Your day pillar comes from your exact date of birth, and nobody can work it out in their head. Put your birthday in and we’ll tell you which of the sixty you are, free, along with the rest of your chart: your elements, what you’re missing, and the part of you people notice first.
