일주 · Day pillar

Yang Earth over the Dragon

戊辰 · 무진일주

One of the six Mountain days

Your day pillar is the day you were born, written as two characters: Earth on top for you, and the Dragon underneath for what you’re sitting on. Of the four pillars in a Saju chart, this is the one that stands for you and the person next to you, which is why a reader looks at it first. There are sixty in all, and this is one of them.

01

A mountain with a dragon sleeping inside it

You’re Yang Earth over the Dragon — earth stacked on damp, fertile earth, with something powerful underneath. You have a big, steady presence and bigger plans than you usually say out loud.

People lean on you instinctively. They also learn quickly that you do not move unless you’ve decided to.

The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning

The day you were born gives you Yang Earth over the Dragon, written 戊辰 and called 무진일주 in Korean. The top half is the Day Master, the character that stands for you, and it reads as a mountain: solid, sheltering, and slower to move than anyone would like.

Both halves of this pillar are the same element, which is called a doubled pillar . It runs at full volume: strong and self-sufficient, and inclined to treat a partner as a rival rather than a teammate.

This is a White Tiger pillar , traditionally read as intense: high stakes, dramatic turns and a will that doesn’t bend easily.

02

Solid all the way down, with drama in the foundations

In daily life that’s a self-reliant, ambitious person with a generous streak and a strong ego, who has lived through at least one big, dramatic chapter and treats it as proof they can handle anything.

The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning

You’re sitting on the Friend star , which is simply more of your own element, at the Coming of Age stage , where energy dresses up for the world. It’s a doubled pillar , earth on earth with nothing to soften it, and a White Tiger pillar too, traditionally read as intense and eventful.

03

You sit on your own element

The animal under your Day Master carries more of what you already are. Traditionally the seat is read for a partner and for home life, and this version of it says you’re self-sufficient there: you can run your own life without anyone’s help, and you know it.

The cost is that partnership can turn into a contest. Two people who both back themselves need to divide things by who wants them rather than who’s better at them, or the relationship quietly becomes a competition nobody named.

This pillar sits at the coming-of-age stage: energy dressed for the world, confident and keen to be seen. It does well early and can overplay its hand, because certainty arrives before experience does.

The Saju bit · the traditional reasoning

The seat is the Independence star , read from the main hidden stem of the Dragon, and the life stage is 관대.

04

Earth sitting on Earth

Earth sitting on Earth is the undiluted version: nothing softens it and nothing gets in its way. You get the full strength of the element, and the full cost of it too.

The Dragon is a Earth animal, which is where that comes from. It’s the same for every Yang Earth over the Dragon, whatever else is in the chart.
